Dish Gal's guide to getting the most out of life, one meal at a time...

Guilty Pleasures!

It's easy to "confess" to loving haute cuisine. It's another to divulge to a fellow foodie that sometimes you'd rather have a filet o' fish than a filet mignon...
Here are some of my favorite guilty pleasure foods... Please leave a comment about what yours are!!
1.) Bertucci's pizza.
I actually am kind of biased on this one, as I used to work at Bertucci's wayyyyy back in the day. Most of the time, waitressing makes you despise the food you serve. However, this was never the case at Bertucci's, as I could honestly never get sick of their pizza. Lots of sauce, fresh ingredients, perfect amount of chewyness to the crust-- hands down, my favorite pizza. I usually opt for either the "sporkie" (sausage and ricotta) or a margarita with onions (Skylar created this simple-yet-delicious combo-- she used to work there, too!).
2.) McDonald's

My favorite McDonald's, Leicester Square, London

My love for McDonald's started when I was abroad, actually. When I was in London, our favorite post-clubbing spot was always the McDonalds in Leicester Square. It was always packed with happy drunk people, clamoring to get their junk food fix. Sometimes, it was also filled with misbehaving drunk people, who were banished to one area of the restaurant (which we always found humorous). By the time we'd make it to the counter, we'd literally order enough for four people. The filet o'fish is my favorite, which most people can't understand. We also were fans of their super salty fries and the McFlurrys, which were insanely good in London because of the Cadbury mix-ins (Crunchies and mini-eggs!!).

Once we realized our love for this place, we even tried to stop at a McDonald's in every country we visited. Our most infamous stop was at one in the airport in Mallorca, Spain. As we noshed away we lost track of time, nearly missing our flight. By the time we sprinted to the gate, clutching our fries, everyone had boarded...except us. Apparently they had been paging us, and we hadn't even heard. I'm sure that glorious McDonald's smell instantly permeated the plane once we boarded, completely giving away our reason for being late. Oh well. I'm sure our fellow passengers were muy celoso =) (Ed. Note: I just freetranslation.com-ed that, so it might be wrong).

3.) California Pizza Kitchen

Is it wrong that I could maybe eat here every day? From the soups to the salads to the pizzas, I've enjoyed every single thing I've ever eaten here. Sure, it's not haute cuisine, but the tortilla soup is creamy and delicious, the thai crunch salad is fresh and, as promised, crunchy, and the pizzas are inventive without being pretentious, with unique flavor combinations like the greek pizza with tzatziki or Sebastian's favorite, the tostada pizza with black beans, herb ranch, cheeses and shredded lettuce.

4) Duncan Hines cake mix
Anytime I try a cake from a fancy bakery, it's kind of a let-down. I feel like they attempt too much, and fall short. For me, one of my favorite things in the world is plain and simple Duncan Hines yellow cake mix and chocolate frosting. Mmmmm. Gotta figure out who's birthday is coming up next so I can have an excuse to bake one of these soon...

Okay, that's it for now. I'm sure I'll think of more. In the meantime, post your own!

Usually hot dogs creep me out (cylinder shaped meat? powdered meat? the thoughts are endless)...but when I'm at Fenway, I've just gotta have one! Add some ketchup and onions -- which inevitably end up all over me and the person next to me -- and it's just too good to pass up! So once or twice (if I'm lucky) a year I embrace my guilty pleasure and indulge in a Fenway frank.

skittles. I love them. If it wasnt for my fiance's concern of how I will fit into my wedding dress I would still be munching on skittles every night at around 12am. First the red, then orange, green and yellow for last. I hate purple it is not part of my guilty pleasure.

The sporkie is a pizza that approaches the divine.

I can’t go wrong or right with a steak chulupa from Taco Bell. I use to hate Taco Bell’s food so much. Heck, I still do. But, if you put a greasy steak chulupa with extra sour cream and two packs of their “Fire” hot sauce in front of me.. I’m down for the count. In fact, I’ll come back for a second and third helping.
